There's some plausible support for the notion that HGH doesn't necessarily improve performance. This blog post by sports economist JC Bradbury summarizes the argument-- http://www.sabernomics.com/sabernomics/index.php/2007/04/i-dont-worry-about-hgh-in-baseball-and-neither-should-you/ (I'm skeptical of that counterintuitive view, and I'm not sure what the view is on how HGH influences injury recovery times. But my takeaway from what I've read is that the HGH benefits are at least less than commonly perceived.)

And personally even without steroids I find the whole sport of horse racing to be barbaric. We force these horses to run around in circles for our own entertainment. It's mean. (BTW, cool guest lineup today with Justin Tuck and Brian Grant.)
